🚨County Police Announces Reduction in Violent Crime for 2024

Yesterday, the County Police Department announced a reduction in violent crimes in 2024 compared to the previous year. Officers’ proactive patrol responses, community partnerships, the use of real-time data, and engagement efforts were attributed.

The Police Chief also emphasized their commitment to proactively fighting and reducing crime within the county.

🏫Public Schools to open 2 hours late today.

Due to the current condition of roads in some neighborhoods, the AACPS has announced that the schools will open two hours late. AACPS will reassess the road conditions in the morning, and any changes to this current status of a two-hour delay will be announced by 7.30 am on Thursday.

🏛️Shaneka Henson becomes the first black woman to represent Anne Arundel in the Maryland Senate.

Having been sworn in on Wednesday, Del. Shenake Henson becomes the first black woman in history to represent Anne Arundel County in the Maryland Senate. She will represent District 30, a seat previously held by Sarah Elfreth, the current representative for the 3rd Congressional District.

Shortly after taking her oath of office, Del. Henson stated, “I want to uplift every woman in Anne Arundel County who was capable and able to do this job, but by way of their gender, by factor of the color of their skin, they were overlooked and weren’t given opportunities for decades and decades and generations and generations,” She further stated, “I am so thankful to live in a time where you can be judged by your qualifications, and not disqualified by those characteristics that you cannot change.”

⚰️Federal workers get today off as Jimmy Carter federal holiday

To mourn the death of former President Jimmy Carter, who died on December 29, 2024, today, January 9, has been declared a federal holiday. All federal offices, including your post office, will be closed.
